Duties and Responsibilities of a Gynaecology ward nurse- OB-Gyn Ward

 The duties and responsibilities of a gynaecology ward nurse are listed below:

Providing patient care, counseling patients who are experiencing difficulties with their reproductive health.

Arranging appointments with physicians and hospitals, responding to phone calls regarding patient admissions and discharges.

Scheduling appointments for all aspects of the patients' care at the hospital or clinic where they work. 

Makes sure that other nurses and doctors understand what patients need from them in terms of care and treatment. 

Taking blood pressure readings, weighing patients and performing other vital signs.

Administering cervical smear tests to women who have been screened.

However, in some cases also administer breast checks and pelvic examination.

 Administering the appropriate dosage of medications to patients, at the proper time, is essential in maintaining their health and wellbeing.

Observing the changes to care plans and sharing them with the patient and/or doctor are critical duties for a gynaecology ward nurse. 

Assess,plan, implement and evaluate care for assigned patients

Strictly adhere to standards of Practice for the OB and GYN Unit and manage all assigned personnel, supplies, and equipment.

Participate in various activities to plan, assess and improve the quality of patient care.

Care for patient and educate them on pre-operative and post-operative surgical cases.

Assist in providing care and patient teaching for the post-partum patient.

Assist gynecologists in birth control-related procedures.

Educate women regarding sexually transmitted diseases, birth control and pre-natal care.

Monitor fetal heart tones, contractions, and assist mothers in labor with breathing exercises.

Prepare women who need cesarean sections and support doctors with administering pain medication.

Apply the mother and infant’s ID bands, weigh and measure the infant, for nursery care.
